According to research by Vanson Bourne, 62% of UK IT directors already offshore software development or plan to do so.

The research also found that 50% will prioritise the offshoring of maintenance for packaged software such as SAP and Oracle.

The survey of 200 UK IT directors was commissioned by a group of Spanish IT consultancies, known as Valueshore.

Other findings:

• 43% will outsource remote infrastructure management.

• 31% will be investing in business process outsourcing (BPO).

• 16% of organisations will be outsourcing their BI functions.

Daniel Naoum, co-founder of Valueshore Spain, said all potential destinations for services should be considered before offshore contracts are signed.

"Each country has its own specialist expertise and, with this in mind, companies should really consider outsourcing providers and regions with a proven track record in their industry. "

Multi-shoring is a growing trend and the choice of locations is increasing as governments across the globe try to emulate India's rise in the IT sector.
