IBM on Monday reported solid numbers across most of its business lines for the second quarter and raised full year earnings guidance.
The company said revenue came in at $23.72 billion—shy of the $24.17 billion expected by Wall Street analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters but 2% higher than the same period a year ago. Net income jumped 9.1% to $3.39 billion, while earnings per share came in at $2.61, up 12.5% from the previous year.
A survey released this week shows that custom applications top the agenda for outsourcing amongst IT directors in the UK. The study, carried out by Vanson Bourne on behalf of Spain-based outsource provider Valueshore, says that 61% of the 200 IT directors questioned are either already outsourcing custom apps or planning to; some 50% plan to outsource maintenance of packaged apps such as Oracle.
The initiative will drive IBM's cloud computing, data analytics plans across the healthcare industry to enhance evidence generation, service quality, privacy and new incentive models.
